Police are looking for a man who allegedly swallowed a pair of diamond earrings worth £13K at a jewellers in Hull.
The suspect is wanted for stealing the jewellery from a store in the city’s St Stephen’s Shopping Centre. While the jewellers has not been named, only Hugh Rice and Luxe by Hugh Rice trade in the centre.
According to local press, the man is accused of “putting the rings on his fingers” before gulping down a set of 18ct white gold diamond earrings and a pair of plain white gold earrings. Two expensive rings were also taken.
Police officers have now launched an appeal following the high value theft which took place on Monday, December 23.
A spokesman for the force said: “We are looking for this suspect in connection with the theft of thousands of pounds worth of jewellery from a city centre jewellers in Hull.
It happened at the shop in the St Stephen’s Shopping Centre, on Ferensway, on Monday, December 23, just before 5pm.
“More than £13,000 worth of items was stolen including a pair of 18 carat white gold diamond earrings, a pair of white gold earrings, a yellow 18 carat gold diamond ring, and a platinum diamond ring.
“He put the rings on his fingers and it’s thought he swallowed the earrings before leaving the store. No one was hurt during the incident.”
Police are calling witnesses to come forward and help their search.
