Ear cuffs well and truly stole the fashion headlines at the 25th annual Critics’ Choice Awards.
At the red carpet event, which honours the finest in cinematic achievement, women opted to go bigger and bolder than the Golden Globes, with many choosing diamond-adorned ear cuffs to complement their gowns.
While the UK has seen a surge in women getting multiple piercings and curating their ears with numerous petite jewels in different shapes and sizes, the Critics’ Choice Award’s red carpet style highlighted a trend for large ear cuffs over small studs.
Celebrities including Olivia Wilde, Kristen Bell and Anne Hathaway embraced the style — each in their own unique way.
Hathaway’s, for example, wrapped around her ear from behind like a snake, while Bell’s cuff featured a long diamond drop design.
Many turned to Parisian jewellery brand, Messika, to complete this look.
Using such expressive jewellery is a sign of celebrities expressing their personality through jewellery – another trend which has hit the British high stress in recent years.
As the trend continues on the red carpet and key catwalks, jewellers should be looking at how they can train staff to help consumers reflect their personality through playing with different styles and ways of curating pieces together.
