Van Cleef to open jewellery school

Paris school will “cast light on the secretive world of jewellery”.

Fine jeweller Van Cleef & Arpels says it is set to take an important step into its future with the opening of a jewellery school early next year, based at its headquarters in Paris’s Place Vendome.

L’Ecole Van Cleef & Arpels will open in February 2012, and has been created by the company “in order to cast a light on the very secretive world of jewellery”. It aims to give insight to anyone interested in jewellery – whether in the trade or not – in what will be a “nutshell” format.

Van Cleef has said that is it an ardent defender of artistic crafts and has thus opened its Ecole as a way of passing on and sharing expert jewellery knowledge and techniques.

“This is why the maison has decided to create a school of jewellery, open to all,” said a release from the brand. “[The school] offers a unique method of discovering and learning for those who are passionate about jewellery, lovers of beauty or simply curious and anyone who wishes to acquire inside knowledge of this fascinating world.”

The school will operate its programs around three steps: unveiling, shedding light and revealing. Each step will have several ‘chapters’ that allow students to progress with each chapter finished.

The school will be housed at the Van Cleef & Arpels head offices and flagship store on Paris’s Place Vendome. Enrolment will open from November 15 for sessions beginning next year, and can be accessed via the Ecole Van Cleef & Arpel website. All courses are taught in both English and French and are open to students from across the world. Course prices start from 600 Euros.
