The public can now cast its votes for the seventh annual edition of Jacobs the Jewellers’ Emerging Designer competition.

Seven designers have competed across two categories – a silver object and a jewellery piece – and also created their own ‘meet the maker’ videos, shared on social media.

Votes can be cast either in-store or online, with voting closing on 17 July and the winners being announced during the week of the 19 July.

The winner of each category will take home £250, while runners-up will win £100 each to spend on tools at HS Walsh, UK jewellery tool supplier.

The competition is run in partnership with the Bishopsland Educational Trust, the Goldsmiths’ Centre and HS Walsh.

Adam Jacobs, partner, Jacobs the Jewellers, commented: “The team and I are really pleased to be hosting this year’s event, especially with such a wide and diverse set of competitors.

“It’s a ringing endorsement to the enduring appeal of jewellery created by real, individual makers in an independent jeweller’s personal store.”

Meanwhile, Chris Oliver, head of professional training of the Goldsmiths’ Centre, added: “Now in its seventh year, the Emerging Designer competition is a fantastic platform for early career makers to be recognised in the marketplace.

“This year the Goldsmiths’ Centre particularly recognises the impact of COVID-19 pandemic on early career the opportunities and is delighted to support initiatives that help creative and talented emerging makers to thrive, connect and collectively grow their skills and businesses.”
