Ernie Blom celebrates life of men who “will leave a legacy.”

The World Federation of Diamond Bourses’ president Ernie Blom has spoken of his profound sense of loss at losing two of the WFDB’s imminent leaders within a month.

In an announcement made in the WFDB’s monthly newsletter, Blom said: “It is with deep sadness and a profound sense of loss that the global diamond industry learned of the passing of two of its most prominent and leading members this past month.”

Freddy Hager, WFDB deputy treasurer general and London Diamond Bourse president, and Artur Beller, president of the Beurs voor Diamanthandel, both passed away in April. Beller died at in Antwerp on April 24, while Hager passed away suddenly at his London home on April 7.

Blom added: “They were not only colleagues and friends to many, but were stalwarts in the many spheres of their respective bourses. Their untimely deaths will undoubtedly leave a vacuum in the industry as they always showed kindness and patience and treated all with respect.”

“Although the void they leave behind can never be filled, we should cherish the legacy of a stronger and sustainable industry to which they greatly contributed”, he concluded.
