Åsa Cupitt, who runs Cupitt Jeweller in Bromsgrove has been shortlisted the final of the Midlands Family Business Awards – which celebrate the work and achievements of family businesses across the region.
The judges said that it was Åsa’s spirited approach to transforming her business, which helped earn her a place as one of five finalists in the Entrepreneur of the Year category. The winner will be announced at a celebratory dinner at Birmingham’s Great Hall in November.
Åsa took over the running of the family business in 2013, following the death of her husband Simon Cupitt – a third generation jeweller. She decided to adopt a fresh, new focus and embarked on a major refurbishment project which included re-opening the onsite workshop and re-assessing the product range to include contemporary jewellery with an emphasis on British designers.
But despite its new look and feel, Åsa insisted the shop retains strong business values, which she said are associated with the Cupitt family name.
Åsa said: “It is an honour to have been shortlisted for this award. 2016 has been a very special year because we celebrated the 70th anniversary of the business in June. Who knows, we might have cause for another celebration before the year ends!”
