World-renowned jewellery artist to speak at this year’s Gem-A Conference


Hong Kong-based jewellery artist, Wallace Chan, will showcase his innovations on the opening day of the Gem-A Conference in November.

Gem-A, the Gemmological Association of Great Britain, will welcome the internationally-recognised jewellery artist to its annual Gem-A Conference opening on November 3.

Chan will be the inaugural speaker at the two-day Conference, which invites leaders in the industry from across the world to London for talks and workshops.

The 62-year-old artist has 45 years’ experience in the industry and has become a leader in innovative gemstone carving and jewellery making techniques.

His talents have led to the creation of numerous innovations, including the Wallace Cut which is an illusionary three-dimensional carving technique.

Mr. Chan gained worldwide recognition by becoming the first Chinese jewellery artist to exhibit at prestigious art fairs like The European Fine Art Fair and the Biennale des Antiquaires.

Marketing and events manager at Gem-A, Elaine Ruddie, said: “We are delighted to welcome Wallace Chan to London. The Gem-A Conference is a destination for qualified gemmologists and gemstone enthusiasts alike, and I know that Mr. Chan’s 45-year career will offer the ideal dose of inspiration to open our first day.”

The Gem-A Conference will be accompanied by field trips to the Crown Jewels in the Tower of London, the V&A and the Natural History Museum and workshops hosted by Gemworld International and MAGILABS.
