Industry veterans, Cathie Osborne and Darren Hildrow, have announced the launch of Maison Cloud. We talk to the founders to hear about the concept behind the digital jewellery platform.
What is Maison Cloud?
DH: Maison Cloud is a platform that curates a collection of leading fine jewellery designers and brands, which we make available to carefully selected luxury jewellery and watch retailers across the globe. All our brands share our vision and embody the values of true luxury, such as rare design, premium materials, and master craftsmanship.
Through Maison Cloud, designers can showcase their collections to a wider audience, allowing them to expand their reach and grow their business in ways they may not have been able to before. By leveraging Maison Cloud, designers can connect with retailers and customers in new and exciting ways, enabling them to stay ahead of the curve and remain competitive in a rapidly changing market.
What is your vision for Maison Cloud and the global fine jewellery market?
CO: We will accelerate the digital shift in the industry and facilitate the transition towards digital luxury sales. We aspire to make our company the most prestigious fine jewellery and watch distributor globally, offering the market’s best quality, style, and selection with seamless digital integration.
Our plan is to provide the world’s finest jewellery to consumers through the most exclusive retailers in the world.
What opportunities lie ahead for players in the fine jewellery industry?
DH: Fine brands require a focussed approach towards brand visibility and expansion, with a sales strategy that guarantees predictable and sustainable revenue streams. The ongoing digital transformation and evolving consumer behaviours have created a promising market for the fine jewellery and watch sectors, with ample opportunities for players to redefine their products, distribution channels, and engagement strategies.
Over the next five years, industry players will strive to sway more consumers towards branded jewellery rather than unbranded counterparts. Additionally, we expect to see a surge in demand for fine jewellery that aligns with sustainability considerations.
What excites retailers about Maison Cloud?
CO: Our platform offers a unique drop-ship service. While our retailers can still buy products and carry inventory if they wish, we understand that from the perspectives of budget and space, they may not always be able to carry all our collections or every SKU in each range.
With Maison Cloud, retailers can have access to our entire collection and offer it on their online store, enabling them to discover new customer segments. This has resulted in a lot of excitement among our retail partners as they now have access to a broader range of brands, without having to worry about the inventory and storage constraints that come with stocking physical inventory.
What qualities do you look for in a Maison Cloud retail partner?
DH: We are always on the lookout for retail partners who share our vision and values. Our ‘ideal’retail partners are those who are leaders in their field. We seek partners who are looking to add refined and unique products to their portfolio, and are constantly exploring new ways to increase sales.
We believe that our retail partners play a crucial role in our success, and we work closely with them to ensure that they have the support and resources they need. We value partnerships that are built on trust, transparency, and a shared commitment to providing exceptional experiences. We believe that, by working together, we can continue to drive innovation and growth, offering customers a truly unique and memorable omni-channel shopping experience.
What’s next for Maison Cloud?
CO: Over the next few months, our focus will be expanding both our premium and luxury micro-brand watch collections. We believe that this is an exciting opportunity.
We are also closely monitoring the evolving watch market, where we see a predicted transfer of £1.9b from multi-brand watch retailers to the D2C channels offered by luxury brands over the next two years. This opens up a lot of white space for strong brands like ours to expand into, and offer our customers a fresh and unique approach to luxury watch buying.
We are confident that staying attuned to the needs of our customers and the market will enable us to continue to grow and thrive in the years to come.
When will Maison Cloud officially launch?
DH: The pilot stage of Maison Cloud has been incredibly successful. Based on this, we are planning to officially launch the portfolio to an additional 25 premium retailers around the world in June, and again in August.
We have received a lot of interest from retailers who are eager to partner with us, and we want to ensure that we are able to meet the needs of our existing and future partners while maintaining the highest standards of quality and service. For this reason, we are initially looking at a maximum of 15 retailers per country to ensure that they can fully maximise the potential of the brands we offer.
We look forward to working closely with our partners to create new and exciting opportunities in the global fine jewellery and watch market.
