Gems of the Design Quarter in running to scoop prize and boost sales.

The Houlden Group has announced its shortlist of jewellery brands and designers in the running for its third Designers of Excellence award, with the winner due to be named at The Jewellery Show next month.

The award gives contemporary jewellery brands or emerging talent a chance to position their collections in front of buyers at some of the UK’s most prestigious jewellery retailers.

This year’s shortlist includes a selection of talents from The Jewellery Show’s Design Quarter, namely: Alex Monroe, Alexis Dove Jewellery, Anja K Design, Arabel Lebrusan, Babette Wasserman London Catherine Budd Jewellery, Charmian Beaton Design, Erica Sharpe Fine Jewellery, Laura Gravestock Jewellery Design, Rachel Galley Jewellery Design and Zelia Horsley Jewellery.

The winner will be selected by a panel of judges who will also pick outstanding designs from the winner’s collection and others’ in the shortlist for a travelling exhibition that will stop at various Houlden Group retail members’ stores.

Houlden Group chief executive Stuart Laing launched the award at The Jewellery Show in 2011 to recognise the fresh and exciting new designers who use a variety of gems, metals and settings to create interesting jewellery with a modern contemporary style.

Previous winners Sarah Ho and William Cheshire have reported the boost the award has given them – which you can read more about the February issue of Professional Jeweller – including appearances at Houlden’s buyers’ meetings.

Laing said: “The Jewellery Show is a great platform for meeting and supporting some of the best innovative jewellery designers and I believe the award offers something the next generation of designers can really aspire to.

“The Designs of Excellence Collection has generated huge interest and it is really exciting to see the latest trends transformed into wonderful pieces of jewellery. We look forward to unveiling the new 2013 collection at The Jewellery Show Birmingham and would encourage people to come along and visit the Jewellery Show as it’s an amazing chance to see some of the world’s most interesting jewellery designs.”

The winner will be announced at the Catwalk Café on Monday February 4 at 4pm.
