The Alkemistry is an unusual proposition in the jewellery market.

Part-retailer, part-brand, it deals only in jewellery from female-founded, independent companies, and operates from a Covent Garden store and Selfridges concessions as well as on its e-commerce site.

Its own fine jewellery pieces make use of 18k gold, as well as diamonds, pearls and precious gemstones.

Its founder, Kirstie Gibbs, started the business in 2015 in a bid to empower women – those who supply her jewellery, those making up her workforce and also her customers.

Last year the brand took on four female jewellery apprentices to tackle issues of sexism within the male-dominated industry.

They will gain experience in CAD, piercing, gemmology, casting, polishing, plating and more.

Sustainability is also at the forefront of Kirstie’s vision for the brand – only 18k Fairtrade gold is used, and all diamonds are ethically sourced, conflict-free and approved by the Responsible Jewellery Council.

In 2021, The Alkemistry Always customer loyalty scheme was launched, meaning products purchased from The Alkemistry can be brought back to be re-worked and re-modelled time and time again.
