One half of the seventh generation owners behind Birmingham-based jewellery brand Deakin & Francis has been recognised with a business accolade.

Managing director Henry Deakin, who runs the business alongside his brother James, was named as IoD West Midlands Director of the Year 2018 in the Family Business Category.

Deakin was awarded the accolade due to his response to specific challenges facing directors in family firms and how he has contributed to the success of the diverse, dynamic and innovative family business sector.

The awards breakfast, held at Edgbaston Cricket Club on June 19, also saw Brian Hall announced as the new chair of IoD West Midlands.

With ten overall categories, the awards were open to directors from the private, public and third sectors across the West Midlands and aimed to recognise an individual’s achievements, the importance of the director’s role in the community and their overall commitment to the success of the business.

“Deakin & Francis has been going from strength to strength and it’s a huge achievement for me to win this award!” said Deakin, managing director of Deakin & Francis.

“As the seventh-generation family member to manage the business, alongside my brother James, my passion has always been to build our brand and offer an innovative, quality range of products that our customers are proud to wear, backed up by a first-class service. To be recognised in this category is such a privilege.”
