Jewellers in Leicester are hopeful for a positive effect on sales, following the Premier League win for the city’s football team.
Speaking to Professional Jeweller, Natalie Murden of Lanes Fine Jewellery, comments: “The atmosphere is electric. Everyone has really got behind the team. It has brought everyone in the city together and everyone’s really supportive. It has been really, really positive for Leicester.”
Laura-Jayne Sames, manager of Lanes Fine Jewellery, adds: “It’s euphoria at the moment, although it’s a bit too early to tell what that means for sales just yet. The city’s too on fire at the moment to be worrying about buying anything.”
Michelle Dilley, store director at Lumbers Jewellers, comments: “There has been a huge surge in the city, which has provided a real feel-good factor. Shop fronts are all decorated up. Here at Lumbers, as well as our Leicester city ring, we’ve also created a jewellery collection to celebrate the team’s win.
“We’re also going to be creating some foxes that have all of the players and scores listed on the base, as limited edition pieces. We’re very proud of Leicester City and we’re getting behind them.”
Divyan Pabari, proprietor of Silk Diamonds believes the city will see an increase in spending. “What we’ve found with the attention Leicester has been getting, is that more and more people from outside the city are visiting. We’ve also had Richard III uncovered her last year as well, so there’s quite a few things drawing people in.
“The football has definitely put Leicester on the map; we’ve had people coming in from France and elsewhere in Europe, and even places like China and New Zealand. I followed the football, and it has been absolutely tremendous for Leicester. It has really uplifted the atmosphere here, and we’re all really pleased.”
